7 Most Accurate Hunting Rifles
Posted Jun 25, 2020
When it comes to choosing hunting rifles, we all have our preferences when choosing caliber, ergonomics, and action type. But there is one thing that we all hunters may agree on is that the more accurate the rifle, the better. After all, there are times when hunting when you have just a few seconds of window opportunity to shoot the target, leaving little time for you to properly adjust your aim. In this blog, we’ll be listing down the 7 most accurate hunting rifles in the market today.
1. BadRock Precision South Fork
Weight: 11.3 lbs.
Cartridge: 6.5 CM
Cost: $$
Trigger: 1.6 lbs.
A standout not only in design but also in terms of accuracy, the South Fork is an exceptional hunting rifle that will feel just as home in the woods as in any competitive range. It is a highly durable gun with all the bells and whistles of what you will want in a hunting rifle.
We found its snappy trigger with a pull of just 1.6 lbs. to be among the best of all hunting rifles. While the finish is a bit plain and looks bland, it is not something you can’t fix yourself.
2. Seekins Precision Havak Pro Hunter 2
Weight: 7.3 lbs.
Cartridge: 6.5 PRC
Cost: $$
Trigger: 2.3 lbs.
The Pro Hunter 2 is an improved version of its already amazing predecessor. With a design that was influenced by modern competition rifles, the Pro Hunter 2 can deliver very accurate shots over long ranges. It also boasts many of the other key features that makes a great hunting rifle such as excellent and lively handling as well as a very crisp trigger break. The Pro Hunter series can be instantly recognized by their highly distinctive spiraling barrel design.
3. Christensen Arms Traverse
Weight: 7 lbs.
Cartridge: 6.5 CM
Cost: $$
Trigger: 3.6 lbs.
The Arms Transverse is another solid option if you are after a hunting rifle that’s accurate but also performs terrifically in all other aspects as well. The gun’s barrel is topped with a rather imposing muzzle break that nonetheless is quite effective in eliminating much of snap out of the recoil.
The default trigger pull isn’t as light as we would like and that does hamper its otherwise superb ability to deliver precise shots. But once you have become used to the heavier pull, it’s not much of an issue anymore. The rifle’s design feels very sturdy and comfortable in hand, giving you great confidence in its handling.
4. Daniel Defense Delta 5
Weight: 9.3 lbs.
Cartridge: .308 Win
Cost: $$
Trigger: 3.3 lb.
If you want a hunting rifle that not only performs excellent and shoots accurately but is instantly bound to grab the attention of your colleagues then the Delta 5 is the gun you should be looking into. The design is a bit unorthodox for a hunting rifle, somewhat resembling an M1 Carbine with a big high-performance rifle butt but strangely, the combinations manage to look aesthetically beautiful.
The three-lug action rifle operates smoothly and the overall handling is great as well. The ambidextrous grip was among the most comfortable and well-designed we’ve seen in hunting rifles. Recoil is a bit annoying, not because it is strong but because of a rather badly designed check piece at the rear. We hope the company does note and correct this minor quirk in this otherwise extraordinary gun.
5. Browning X-Bolt Max Long Range Hunter
Weight: 8.2 lbs.
Cartridge: 6.5 CM
Cost: $
Trigger: 3 lbs.
If you are a little tight on the budget but still want a hunting rifle that offers excellent precision then the X-Bolt Max would make a perfect choice. Worry not that you might be getting a lower-grade item as there is no compromise in material nor workmanship; this rifle is utterly reliable and rugged. The company was able to shave off the cost by streamlining its manufacturing process.
6. Proof Switch
Weight: 7.5 lbs.
Cartridge: 6.5 CM
Cost: $$$
Trigger: 2.5 lbs.
The Proof Switch, despite a rather unimpressive name itself, is one hell of an awesome and highly accurate hunting rifle. It packs a good weight, a snappy trigger, excellent craftsmanship, and stellar performance.
One great feature of this rifle is the ability to quickly swap out and replace its barrel. It is from this that the rifle gets its name, ‘switch’. Quality-wise, this rifle is a literal tank. Be it in the wet marshes, the salty shores, or under the intense heat and dust of the desert, this rifle will withstand any abuse that gets thrown at it.
7. Patriot Valley Arms John Hancock
Weight: 9.6 lbs.
Cartridge: 6 CM
Cost: $$
Trigger: 3.5 lbs.
While foremost, not a hunting rifle but a competition rifle, the Arms John Hancock would nonetheless be just as superb in the former category. The gun’s reliability is exceptional and so is its handling. The overall design is a bit basic lacking the frills and featuring just the essentials, which, to some hunters feel welcoming. Of course, the lack of complexity also translates to less maintenance while out in the field.
At 9.6 lbs., it is just outside the range of the ideal standard for a hunting rifle (7 to 9 lbs.) but thanks to how well its weight is distributed, the gun does feel a bit lighter in the hand.
